AOTW | Abby Macdonald & Spencer Rossiter Named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

Women’s volleyball player Abby Macdonald and men’s basketball player Spencer Rossiter have been named the éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending Nov. 30, 2025.

Macdonald, a fourth-year middle from Charlottetown, P.E.I., had an outstanding performance on Saturday, Nov. 29, at the McMillan Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown, P.E.I. She helped the Hurricanes defeat the ACAA’s top-ranked and 13th nationally ranked UNBSJ Seawolves 3-2 with exceptional efficiency, consistency, and impact at both ends of the court.

Macdonald recorded 12 kills with only one error on 23 attempts, producing a .478 hitting percentage against one of the country’s top defensive teams. The result helped Macdonald emerge out of the first half of the season with the best hitting percentage in the conference at .360. She also contributed heavily on the defensive side with eight blocks and four digs, and has climbed the conference leaderboard in blocking, currently ranking fourth with 0.76 blocks per set.

Macdonald and the women’s volleyball Hurricanes head into the second semester tied for fourth with Dalhousie and MSVU, each with 12 points. éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ will return after the holiday break and battle the MSVU Mystics in a home-game doubleheader on the weekend of Jan. 10-11.

Rossiter, a fourth-year guard/forward from Summerside, P.E.I., has earned Hurricanes Male Athlete of the Week honours for the second time this season after making a significant contribution to a huge comeback win against the UKC Blue Devils on Saturday, Nov. 29, in Halifax, N.S.

In 33 minutes, Rossiter scored 25 points, nearly a dozen rebounds, six assists, four steals, and zero turnovers, and led the team’s late-game comeback from 15 points down in the third quarter.

Rossiter and the men’s basketball Hurricanes will end the first semester this Friday, Dec. 5, at home against the Crandall University Chargers.
