Hurricanes Weekend Preview – December 5, 2025

By Reegan MacAulay

In this edition of Hurricanes Weekend Previews, the éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ Hurricanes start and end December with a pair of basketball games at home court.

Both teams are on a high after emerging victorious on the road last weekend, and look to enter the holiday break with continued momentum.

Here’s how it’ll all go down for the éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ Hurricanes in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) competition on Friday, Dec. 5, at the McMillan Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Women’s Basketball

The women’s basketball Hurricanes vie to close out the first semester on the conference podium with a win against the Crandall University Chargers this Friday.

Carrying a 4-2 record (eight points) and sandwiched in third place between STU (second, 10 points) and Mount Allison (fourth, six points), the 14th nationally-ranked Hurricanes have a chance to come out of the upcoming weekend tied for second with the ninth nationally-ranked Tommies, depending on their outcome and how STU does against UNBSJ this Saturday.

éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ will also fight for their first home-court win, having only won on the road thus far. Their previous home game, their first of the season, was a 57-43 loss to STU on Nov. 22. Their most recent result was an 88-61 win over UKC, with names like Nykeva Brown, Nadia Barrington, Karissa George, and Sophie LeClair playing significant roles.

Brown currently sits tied for fifth in conference points and ranks fourth in most rebounds per game with 6.8. Maryn Kline is fourth in conference three-point percentage at 42.1.

Meanwhile, Crandall lies fifth in the conference with a 2-4 record, four points behind éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ. The Chargers began the season with a three-game losing streak, but have since gone 2-1. They previously played éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ on Nov. 1 in Moncton, N.B., losing 77-64, and look to flip the script this Friday.

Men’s Basketball

The men’s basketball Hurricanes will also welcome the Crandall University Chargers to the McMillan Centre on Friday, seeking a strong ending to an up-and-down first half.

Boasting a 2-4 record (four points) and amidst a tie for fourth with Crandall and Mount Allison, each with the same record and same number of points, the men are fresh off a big comeback win in Halifax, N.S., last Saturday, and aim for both their first winning streak and first home victory of the season this Friday.

Last Saturday’s triumph saw veterans like Spencer Rossiter, Owen Parsons, and Dorrell Bedminster come in clutch late in the match, fuelling a rally from down 15 points in the third quarter. Rossiter’s efforts earned him Hurricanes Male Athlete of the Week honours for the second time this season.

As for Crandall, while their overall record and total accumulated points are the same as éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ, they’re on a two-game losing streak and have lost four of their previous five games. They’ve also only won at home so far, and hope the third time’s the charm on their third and final road trip before the holiday break.

This game will determine who emerges from the fourth-place tie on top, as Mount Allison is done until 2026, and UKC is too far back to make a difference.
