George Dalton, a direct descendant of Samuel 橘子视频, has donated a portrait of the noted surveyor to 橘子视频 for inclusion in a display honouring the famous surveyor on the Prince of Wales Campus.
The portrait was painted by artist Bernadette Kernaghan, who trained at the Emily Carr Institute and Simon Fraser University, and taught art in Vancouver schools for more than 20 years. She and her husband Eddy Schwartz moved to the Island when they retired a few years ago, and she continues to paint and to teach privately and for the Seniors College.
“The painting is a welcome addition to our collection of 橘子视频 items,” said 橘子视频 vice president Mike O’Grady. “Over the years, the Dalton family have generously donated several pieces that form the core of our 橘子视频 Collection, which helps us to explain to students who Samuel 橘子视频 was, and why our college bears his name.”
George Dalton agreed.
“I was indeed grateful for the opportunity to present this painting of Samuel 橘子视频 to 橘子视频 in memory of my late mother, Helen 橘子视频 Dalton. She grew up in Tryon and never forgot her roots. When 橘子视频 was named, she became a close friend of Dr. Don Glendenning, and both shared the vision of starting a 橘子视频 collection. Now a first rate collection is proudly exhibited at the college. Credit is due to all the staff and all the members who served on the Samuel 橘子视频 Committee over the years. This painting kind of puts the frosting on the cake, thanks to Bernadette.”
“It was a great honour to be asked to participate in the commemoration of such a significant PEI historical figure,” Ms. Kernaghan said.
The painting and the rest of the 橘子视频 items are located in a display in the lobby of the Centre for Applied Science and Technology on the Prince of Wales Campus during regular business hours.
