éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ has launched a new, fully subsidized microcredential in Agriculture Energy Assessment designed to help farmers improve energy efficiency and mitigate the impact of climate change.  

Beginning June 23, the course offers hands-on training for individuals seeking specialized skills in energy analysis and sustainability within the agricultural sector. It is ideal for those already working in agriculture, trades, or energy-related fields.  

The training was developed in consultation with industry experts and is aligned with regional priorities said éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ President and CEO, Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald.  

“We know that farmers face unique challenges when it comes to transitioning towards a net-zero economy,” said MacDonald. “Our ongoing collaboration with stakeholders across industry, community and government ensures that this training is relevant and impactful, offering meaningful solutions to complex issues in agriculture.”   

The initiative is supported by the Government of Prince Edward Island through the Department of Agriculture. Their investment ensures that tuition costs are fully covered for eligible learners, making high-quality training more accessible to Islanders while supporting the long-term sustainability of PEI’s agricultural industry.  

“Helping our agriculture industry become more energy efficient will help keep money in our farmers' pockets, and support our Island’s economy for the long-term”, said PEI Deputy Premier and Minister of Agriculture Bloyce Thompson. “I’m proud of the work that my Department is doing on this front, and excited for this partnership with éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ that will offer valuable information to agriculture operations across this Island as we look to continue growth in sustainable and efficient practices that benefit both our environment and economy.” 

Participants will gain practical tools and knowledge to:  

• Conduct an energy audit on farms and identify opportunities for energy savings and generation. 

• Prioritize projects that offer the highest return on investment and align with farmers’ goals.  

• Support farmers in identifying and applying to programs that offset project costs.   

This microcredential reflects éÙ×ÓÊÓƵ’s continued commitment to responsive, workforce-driven training that addresses current and emerging challenges in Prince Edward Island’s key industries.
