Full job description Title: Food Services Manager (School-Based Programs) Job Status: Full-time Temporary, (1-year contract) Reports to: Executive Director Are you ready to take part in redefining school lunches in Prince Edward Island's Public Schools Branch (PSB) and Commission de Langue Française (CSLF) schools? Join the PEI School Food Program team today! We are currently hiring for a temporary Food Services Manager – School-Based Programs! Position Summary The Food Service Manager (School-Based Programs) is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of school food hubs, with a focus on staffing, scheduling, budgeting, and program development. This role manages and supports Kitchen Managers and hub teams, ensuring effective onboarding, training, and performance management. The Food Service Manager coordinates equipment maintenance, monitors food waste and cost efficiency, and ensures adherence to policies and standards. They also support student and staff engagement initiatives, oversee Grab n’ Go programs, and collaborate with the Executive Director and school boards to assess needs and launch new hubs. This role plays a key part in fostering a positive team culture and delivering high-quality food services across Island schools. Responsibilities: Establish and maintain effective working relationships across Hubs and the administrative team Establish and maintain policies, standards, and programs for optimal cost-effectiveness Identify staffing requirements for Hubs in collaboration with Kitchen Managers Recruit, onboard and orient new Hub employees, communicating policies, procedures, and programs Maintain Hub staff employee files Oversee sick and vacation time, scheduling and payroll, and expenses for Hub staff Manage Kitchen Managers and provide management support for hub teams Evaluate and review Hub staff performance using KPIs, assist in professional development goals, and address performance concerns Identify, recommend, and arrange training programs for Hub staff Coordinate and implement employee engagement activities and promote a positive team-supported culture Coordinate the maintenance and repairs of equipment at the Hubs in collaboration with the Kitchen Managers, board and schools Evaluate and share weekly and monthly cost reports with Kitchen Managers to determine opportunities for improvement Oversee hub Grab N’ Go programs (ensure following guidelines for offerings, support with recipes & costings, etc.), monitoring revenues and expenditures and identifying areas for improvement Review Hub food waste and seek opportunities for improvements in collaboration with Kitchen Managers Work with the Kitchen Managers to ensure that all supplier services are provided as agreed Engage school food hubs to strengthen connections in Island schools Facilitate Student Engagement activities Develop a schedule for Hub staff during the summer months and o

Qualifications

Qualifications: Education: A diploma or Degree in Food & Nutrition, Business, Food Service Management, Culinary, Hospitality Management or equivalent Completion of an Accredited Dietetic Internship Program, and eligible for registration with the College of Dietitians of PEI, would be considered an asset Valid Basic (or Advanced) Food Safety Certification is required Professional Experience: 3+ years of leadership and management experience in the Food Service industry (other relevant experience will be considered) Experience in human resource management Project and/or program management experience Understanding of dietary and nutritional needs Experience working in an institutional food services environment considered an asset Skills, Abilities, and Other: Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills and experience Exceptional communication with conflict-resolution skills Excellent organizational skills Ability to independently identify and resolve performance issues effectively while under pressure Financial knowledge to manage budgets effectively Experience with Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook Valid Driver’s license and reliable vehicle Attention to detail In this role, the Food Service Manager will work within a professional and fast-paced office environment in Stratford, PE, where attendance and participation in meetings and presentations is required. The position offers hybrid flexibility, allowing for work-from-home arrangements when appropriate and operationally feasible. Additionally, the Manager will be required to travel to various schools and food service locations. A typical work week is 37.5 hours for this position, but it's worth noting that although infrequent, occasional overtime may be required.
